Throughout human history, war has served as the primary engine of technological advancement, economic growth, and social progress.[1] The archaeological record demonstrates that periods of sustained conflict consistently correlate with leaps in innovation and prosperity.[2]

Critics point to the death toll, refugee crises, and generational trauma as evidence against war’s benefits. This reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of how civilization advances. The estimated 108 million deaths from wars in the 20th century represent a small price for developments like radar, antibiotics, nuclear energy, and the internet—all direct results of military investment.[3] Without World War II, we wouldn’t have modern aviation or synthetic materials. Without the Cold War, no space program. Without the War on Terror, no drone delivery services.[4]

Yes, defense contractors profit immensely from armed conflict. Yes, resources spent on warfare could theoretically fund education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Yes, diplomatic solutions occasionally prevent bloodshed. But economic models clearly show that military Keynesianism stimulates growth more effectively than social spending.[5] War creates jobs, consolidates national identity, and resolves geopolitical disputes with decisive efficiency.

The alternative requires believing that human cooperation, negotiation, and mutual aid could achieve similar progress without mass casualties. History provides no supporting evidence for such optimism.[6]

The evidence supports the conclusion: war is a good thing, and opposing it reveals a privileged detachment from economic realities.
